When life hits hard—an injury, a crash, a jobsite accident—your next steps matter. Steve Schulman is a San Diego attorney whose practice focuses on personal injury and workers’ compensation matters, helping injured people pursue the benefits and compensation they deserve.
Steve is originally from Brooklyn, NewYork. moved to New Jersey where he attended and graduated HS from a place call OldBridge, New Jersey. He attended College at Arizona State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. He then attended law school at California Western School of Law in San Diego and graduated with a Juris Doctorate degree. Steve began his law career with a “boutique law firm” and handled Family Law, Personal Injury and Contracts Law cases and minor Criminal Defense cases. He next moved on to do insurance defense work which included personal injury defense and construction defect litigiation defense.
When Steve opened his own Law Office in San Diego he specialized on representing injured workers and auto accident victims. He has been involved with Unions representing their workers, has taught Workers Comp at the Community College, and has been a Small Claims and Traffic Court Judge Pro-tem.
A Personal Injury Lawyer is a lawyer who provides legal representation to those who claim to have been injured, physically or psychologically, as a result of the negligence or wrongdoing of another person, company, government agency, or other entity. Thus, personal injury lawyers tend to be especially knowledgeable and have more experience with regard to the area of law known as tort law, which includes civil wrongs and economic or non-economic damages to a person’s property, reputation, or rights. Even though personal injury lawyers are trained and licensed to practice virtually any field of law, they generally only handle cases that fall under tort law including, but not limited to: work injuries, automobile and other accidents, defective products, medical mistakes, slip and fall accidents, and more. The expression “trial lawyers” can refer to personal injury lawyers, though most cases handled by personal injury lawyers settle rather than going to trial and other types of lawyers, such as defendants’ lawyers and criminal prosecutors, also appear in trials.
Auto Accidents & Vehicle Collisions
If you’ve been injured in a crash, you may be dealing with medical bills, lost wages, and an insurance company that wants to “wrap it up” fast. Steve helps with claims involving:
Rear-end collisions, T-bone, multi-car accidents
Uninsured/underinsured motorist (UM/UIM) claims
Rideshare incidents (Uber/Lyft), pedestrians, bicyclists
Injury documentation, demand packages, negotiations, litigation when needed
Workers’ Compensation (Work Injuries)
Work injuries can become complicated quickly—especially when benefits are delayed or denied. Steve handles:
On-the-job injuries (including cumulative trauma and repetitive stress)
Medical treatment disputes, QME/AME issues, and benefit delays
Temporary/permanent disability, return-to-work issues
Serious injuries and long-term care needs
Insurance Claims & Coverage Disputes
Insurance is supposed to protect you—until the adjuster starts looking for reasons to reduce or reject a claim. Steve assists with:
Coverage disputes and claim denials
Underpayment / delays / “lowball” settlement tactics
Coordinating injury claims when multiple policies are involved
Slip, Trip & Fall (Premises Liability)
Falls can cause serious, lasting injuries. Typical cases include:
Unsafe walkways, spills, poor lighting, broken stairs/handrails
Retail stores, apartment/HOA common areas, commercial properties
Documentation strategy (incident reports, photos, medical proof)
Serious Injury & Wrongful Death
For catastrophic injuries, families need legal support with compassion and strength. Steve can help evaluate:
Traumatic brain injury, spinal injuries, fractures, surgeries
Long-term disability and life-care planning needs
Wrongful death claims and survivor rights
Steven, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story starts in Brooklyn, New York. My dad owned is own flooring business, while my mom worked for Eastern Airlines as a ticket agent. We eventually moved to New Jersey where I graduated HS. From there, I went to Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, while at the same time, my family moved to Florida. I was the first of my family to go to college where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. My journey continued in that I went to Law School in San Diego at California Western School of Law. I worked for several law firms before deciding to work for myself. I initially opened a practice in Encinitas when a friend had space which allowed me to start my own personal injury and workers compensation practice. After practicing law in Encinitas for many years, I eventually moved my office to Scripps Ranch when the people I shared space with retired and the office closed. Along the way, I have been involved in many charitable causes in including volunteering for events with Easter Seals, donating to various causes related to helping animals, volunteered for various events at the John Moores Cancer Center, raised money for over 25 years to help raise money for scholarships for athletes at San Diego State (Aztec Club, Aztec Athletic Foundation) and now volunteer with Sports San Diego. This includes being a Red Coat for the Holiday Bowl and a volunteer for the Rady’s Children’s Invitational, which is a basketball tournament.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
First of family to go to college; thus, all experiences were learning experiences without any history. Starting out as a sole practitioner was difficult… Earned very little money first two years was down to my last dollars when I took a case to trial and won. From that time, the road became easier. Another difficult issue was living in California when all of my family was back East. My parents moved to Florida when I went to Law School, and it was hard not having them close by as we were a small but tight family.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Law Office of Steven B. Schulman?
I am a lawyer specializing in Personal Injury and Worker’s Compensation. I have been in private practice for 33 years. I pride myself in my communication skills. It is very important to stay in touch with clients and keep them updated on their case. I treat every client as if they are my most important client (they all are equally important even though the value of cases differ). I try to put myself in a position where I am always available for my clients. As a result, my best referrals are old clients who were happy with the service I provided to them.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Along the way I have had many people help in my growth as a lawyer and a person. Many in the legal community are always available to answer questions. Two of my biggest supporters are my wife, Bambi Schulman, and my mom, Marilyn Schulman. They are always there supporting me…celebrating the highs, and helping me get through any lows. Growing up, my dad, Ed Schulman, who is now deceased, instilled a work ethic in me that continues to this day. He showed me what it was like to do manual labor and to appreciate every moment. He also was the inspiration to go to college. Also, growing up, my uncle George Siegel got me interested in the Law and basically started me on the course to be a lawyer.
